
Julia Greene Finishes First Day Of NCAA Championships Tied For 16th Place

WALTHAM, Mass. – Julia Greene finished the first day of competition at the NCAA Fencing Championships tied for 15th in the women's sabre event at the Gosman Athletic Center at Brandeis.
Greene went 3-4 in the first round Thursday, with four of her bouts decided by one touch. She defeated Yale's Joanna Lew 5-2, then had 5-4 wins over Alisha Gomez-Shah of Northwestern and St. John's' Mathilda Taharo. Greene lost 5-4 to Alexa Antipas of Ohio State and Margaret McDonald of St. John's. She also suffered defeats to Columbia's Lena Johnson and Anastasia Ivanoff.
The junior was 3-5 in the final two rounds of the day. In the second round, Greene won one bout out of four with a 5-4 victory over Teodora Kakhiani of Penn State. She wrapped up her day with two wins in the third round. Greene defeated Zoee D'Costa of Cornell 5-3 and earned a 5-4 win over Notre Dame's Francesca Russo.
With a 6-9 record, Greene is tied with three other fencers for 16th place. Adrienne Jarocki of Harvard leads the competition with a 12-3 record, followed by Gracie Stone of Princeton and Columbia's Lena Johnson at 11-4.
The round-robin competition wraps up Friday.
