Ferguson and Hickey Run SHU Record-Setting Miles At Ocean State Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I - The SHU men's and women's track and field teams were in action at the Ocean State Invitational this weekend, co-hosted by Providence College on Friday and Brown University on Saturday.
On Friday, Sean Ferguson took the school record in the outdoor mile, an event only contested on rare occasions. He finished in a New England and IC4A qualifying time of 4:12.88. Teammate Trevor Guerrera finished in 4:14.40, an outdoor personal best that surpasses the ICAAAA standard.
Ralph Gangi set a personal best in the 800m, finishing in 1:59.15.
For the women, Shannon Hickey broke the school record in the mile. Her time of 5:01.34 is a personal best. Tara Connelly finished closely behind her in 5:02.77, also running a personal best. Cynthia Gray (5:12.90), Kelly Quinn (5:15.31) and Alexandra Kaeslin (5:17.39) rounded out the field of SHU women in the event.
In the seeded women's hammer invitational, Mareena DiMilia finished 2nd among college competitors, with a New England qualifying mark of 164'11". Teammate Elizabeth Tevnan set a new personal record in the unseeded women's hammer, tossing 141'9".
Saturday's action, hosted by Brown, saw Joshua Beloff win the 200m dash in 22.55. Beloff also qualified for the 100m dash finals with a prelim time of 11.27, shaving time off in the finals to finish 5th in 11.26. Teammate Quaheem Dufane also made the finals, running 11.34 in prelims and finishing 7th in finals in 11.47.
Adam King won the high jump clearing 6'0.5".
Christian Turner tossed a new personal best in the shot put (48'10.75"), which surpasses the New England standard.
Patrick DiIorio (115'4") and Steven Lefebvre (103'1") set personal bests in the discus throw.
The men's 4x100 squad ran a time of 42.85, which currently ranks third in the NEC.
For the women Kayla Lawrence finished 5th overall with a New England qualifying time of 57.23 in the 400m.
Freshman Erika Johnson took home her first collegiate win in the discus, tossing it 119'9".
Kaitlyn Goodlow ran a personal best in the 3,000m, crossing the line in 11:23.90.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday April, 20 for the first day of the Holy Cross College Heptathlon and Decathlon.
