
Track and Field Competes at the Silfen Invitational Friday Night Elite Distance Races

New London, Conn – The Sacred Heart University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Silfen Invitational in the Friday Night Elite Distance Races, where both teams turned in several strong overall performances.
On the men's side, the Pioneers' strongest performance came in the 1500m event, where they placed four runners inside the top 11 out of 31 participants. Brady Sweeney led the way with an impressive third-place finish, crossing the line in 4:06.94. Declan Toland followed closely behind in fifth place with a time of 4:09.13. Matthew Vene added a ninth-place finish after clocking in at 4:10.88, while Thomas Ruane rounded out the group with an eleventh-place finish in 4:13.54.
On the women's side, the Pioneers' strongest performance came in the 5000m event. Grace Del Giorno led the way with an eighth-place finish, crossing the line in 17:30.86. Close behind was Alivia Schweibinz, who placed ninth overall with a time of 17:38.54.

The Pioneers will return to action next weekend, competing on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 at the 50th ECAC Division I Women's & 149th IC4A Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
