
Women's Track Leads NEC Championships After Day One, Men's Track In Fifth

New Britain, Conn. - The Sacred Heart women's track and field team opened a 46-point lead Saturday after the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by CCSU. The men's team is in fifth after Saturday.
Women's Recap
The Pioneers piled up 81 points through five events scored and hold a wide lead over second-place Robert Morris (35) in the team standings. The Pioneers will be trying to secure a second straight title with 16 events up for grabs on Sunday.
- In the 10,000m race SHU scored 27 points with a 1-2-4-6-8 finish. Senior Shannon Hickey won with a time of 36:47.15. Junior Meghan Hutch finished second running 36:47.62, and senior Alexandra Kaeslin finished fourth in 37:30.91. All three surpassed the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships.
- Mareena DiMilia won the hammer throw with a throw of 58.64m, accounting for 10 points and surpassing the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships. Jenna Rothermel threw 45.98m to finish sixth for three points, Elizabeth Tevnan scored two points with a mark of 44.38m to take seventh and Kristina Klemenz completed the scoring for the Pioneers with a mark of 43.43m to place eighth.
- Sacred Heart won the 4x800m relay in a time of 9:16.86 with Tara Connelly, Cynthia Gray, Christine Donnelly and Jennifer Hahne.
- In the shot put, Mareena DiMilia secured a bronze medal with a throw of 13.06m.
- Nicole Bartosch posted second-place finishes in the long jump (5.54m) and high jump while also qualifying for Sunday's finals in the 200m dash and 100m hurdles. Her 24.64 in the 200m prelims was the fastest time Saturday and qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
- Junior Victoria Pileggi also finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.58m.
- In the long jump Hannah Cook cleared 5.11m to take eighth.
- Kayla Lawrence had the fourth-fastest 400m prelim time of 57.12.
- In the 800m, Caroline Conte finished fourth in 2:20.45. Junior Taylor Ann D'Agostino took seventh place in 2:23.10. Nicole Conte also scored in the event, finishing eighth in 2:23.45.
Men's Recap
The Sacred Heart men's track team scored 21.5 points Saturday to finish the day in fifth place.
- Trevor Guerrera had the fastest 800m prelim with a qualifying time of 1:54.13. Guerrera also qualified for the 1500m final in a time of 4:07.07.
- In the 200m, Joshua Beloff qualified for Sunday's final with a time of 21.99. He also qualified for the 100m final in 10.93.
- In the hammer throw, sophomore Steven Lefebvre finished fifth with a mark of 48.48m and Scott Sheehan finished seventh with a throw of 47.80m.
