PRINCETON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart track and field teams competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend, hosted by Princeton.
Trevor Guerrera ran a personal best time of 1:49.92 in the Men's Elite 800 meters. His time qualified him for the IC4A and New England meets and is the fastest time in the NEC this season. It was also the second-fastest 800 in program history and ranks him 51st in the NCAA Division I East Region. Sean Ferguson ran a 14:35.04 in the 5,000 meters, finishing 12th. He currently has the fastest 5,000 meter time in the NEC.
The women's team was led by Mareena DiMilia, who won the hammer throw with a toss of 187 feet. It was the second-longest throw in program history and puts her 34th in the NCAA Division I East Region. DiMilia also qualified for the ECAC and New England meets. Jenna Rothermel (146'5"), Kristina Klemenz (143'7"), and Erika Johnson (121'4") also set personal bests in the event.
On the track, Tara Connelly ran the fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the NEC this season. Connelly ran a New England qualifying time of 11:01.46, a career-best and fifth-fastest time in program history. Kayla Lawrence also qualified for the New England meet in the 400 meters. Her time of 56.31 is the second-fastest in program history and puts her fourth in the NEC. Jennifer Hahne also ran a personal best with a 4:39.90 in the 1500 meters. It was the fourth-best time in the NEC this year.
A select group of athletes also competed in the Wolfie Invitational at Stony Brook. Joshua Beloff won the 100 meters in a time of 10.95 to qualify for the IC4A Championships. He also took second place in the long jump with a leap of 21'1". Christian Turner earned his first collegiate win in the shot put with a throw of 48'2".
The Pioneers are back in action on Thursday, April 28 for the first day of the Penn Relays.
Other Highlights…
- Selina Sampieri took second place in the pole vault at Holy Cross Sunday, clearing 11'1.75" to qualify for New England. Giuseppe DeLucia cleared 14'11" to tie the program's outdoor record and his personal best.
- Sebastian Pierre ran 49.80 in the 400 meters.
- Kelly Quinn (11:16.93), Kate Svensen (11:24.87), and Sarah Bent (11:59.01) ran personal bests in the steeplechase at Princeton.
- Cynthia Gray ran a personal best 2:18.17 in the 800.
- Christine Donnelly set a personal best in the 1500 at 4:52.21.
- Tanaya Wade ran a personal best 12.82 in the 100 meters.
- Erika Johnson had a personal best in the discus of 124'6".
- Antonia Palazzolo ran a personal best 12:34.98 in the steeplechase.
- Sean Kildare set a personal best of 10:19.82 in the steeplechase at Stony Brook.
- O'Brian Joslyn had a personal best throw of 118'4" in the hammer throw at Stony Brook.
