
Men's Golf Takes Third At NEC Men's Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished the third round of the NEC Championships in third place, its highest finish since 2012.
Hector Gutierrez shot the low round among all competitors Sunday with a four-under 68 to finish tied for third at two under. Gutierrez used two birdies on the front nine and four birdies coming in, including three straight between holes 11, 12, and 13, to move up eight spots on the leaderboard.
A.J. Correia finished just inside the top-10 in the group tied for ninth after a two-over 74 left him at +3 for the tournament. Matt Shubley shot a third round 76 to finish tied for 13th at five over. Tom D'Andrea also shot a four over 76, and finished alone in 24th on the leaderboard, while Connor Cunningham shot an 81 in his third round to place tied for 33rd at 16 over par.
The Pioneers ended the tournament 11 shots back of Bryant and Wagner, who tied for first at five over par. Wagner won the tournament on the second playoff hole. SHU ended the day three shots clear of Robert Morris, who finished fourth, and Saint Francis U, who jumped Central Connecticut State to round out the top five.
