
Track and Field Competes At New England Outdoor Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's and women's track and field teams competed in the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held this weekend at Southern Connecticut State.
The women's team scored 51 points to take fourth place out of 37 teams. The men had 13 points to finish 18th.
**Note: "All-New England" status is granted to the top eight athletes in each event.
Friday's Highlights
Nicole Bartosch was second in the heptathlon by the end of the first day. She was third in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.66, and set a personal best in the shot put, grabbing third as well with a throw of 36'0.25". The junior was second in the high jump, clearing 5'4.25". Bartosch won the 200m, breaking her own school record with a time of 24.49.
Mareena DiMilia took home gold in the hammer throw, with a mark of 186'11". DiMilia currently ranks 29th in the Region in the event after her performance at the Northeast Conference Championships last weekend. DiMilia also set a huge personal best in the javelin, throwing 146'1" for fourth place. The mark is a new school record that ranks her 47th in the NCAA Division I East Region. Teammate Julia Cassidy also set a personal best of 137'2" to grab seventh place. The mark ranks her 90th in the Region. The two claimed All-New England honors, the first time in Cassidy's career.
Jenna Rothermel set a personal record in the hammer throw of 160 feet, finishing seventh to earn All-New England for the first time in her career.
Meghan Hutch finished fourth in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 37:12.70, making the All-New England team for the first time in her career.
For the men, Giuseppe DeLucia cleared a height of 14'11" to finish ninth, just missing the All-New England team by one spot.
Sebastian Pierre ran a new personal best in the 400m prelims of 49.03, to secure him a spot in the finals for the first time in his career at NEICAAA's.
Freshman Joshua Hadity and sophomore Andrew Handfield set personal bests of 32:43 and 32:51.66, respectively, in the 10,000 meters.
Saturday's Highlights
Nicole Bartosch finished second overall in the women's heptathlon with a score of 5,286, breaking Bonnie Kilis' school record of 5149 set back in 2011. She took second in the long jump with a mark of 18'5.75", and was also second in the 800 meters. In the javelin she placed 4th with a 106-foot throw.
Selina Sampieri finished second in the pole vault, clearing 11'7.75".
Mareena DiMilia set another personal best with a mark of 44'8.25" in the shot put to finish third.
Tara Connelly took home her first All-New England honor with a sixth-place finish in the steeplechase, running 11:08.37.
Hannah Cook took seventh place in the triple jump, with a new personal best leap of 37'9.25".
Trevor Guerrera matched his personal best in the 800m, finishing 3rd overall in 1:49.92. Guerrera currently sits 3rd in the NCAA Division 1 East Region.
O'Brian Joslyn set an outdoor personal best in the shot put with a mark of 47'1.50".
Sebastian Pierre finished fifth in the 400m finals, running a new personal best of 48.90. Pierre's All New England honor is the first of his career.
Pierre and Guerrera ran the fastest legs on the men's 4x400 relay squad, where the two split 48.5 and 48.0, respectively. Joshua Beloff and Ralph Gangi rounded out the relay to earn All New England honors as SHU took sixth in 3:18.27.
