Women's Fencing Sweeps Competition At Final NFC Meet

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.— The Sacred Heart women's fencing team dominated the third Northeast Fencing Competition meet of the season held at Smith College on Saturday. The Pioneers swept all five matches for the successful end of the final NFC meet.
SHU kicked off the day with a 23-4 win over Boston University in round two. The Pioneers foil and Epee squads went 16-1 against the Terriers to kick things off. After a round off, the Pioneers downed Dartmouth 18-9 with the Epee team of Ashley Cherry, Daria Rudakova, and Samantha Abbott recording the 9-0 sweep.
The Epee team continued it's strong play in round five with another 9-0 sweep as SHU defeated Tufts 17-10. The Pioneers battled Vassar to a one-point win with a score of 14-13. Rudakova, Abbott and Cherry swept the final eight bouts for the convincing 8-1 win.
SHU ended its day with a 15-12 win over host, Smith College with the Sabre team providing the key 6-3 win as Mackenna Lamphere, Hasoni Austin and Remi O'Shaughnessy swept the final four bouts for the match win.
