The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team begins 2020 and Northeast Conference play as it welcomes Merrimack College to the Pitt Center. The game marks the first NEC game for the Warriors, who are in the first year of transitioning to Division I status. The Pioneers are 7-6 on the year, while the Warriors are 6-7. Youth, 12 and under, wearing a CYO jersey will be admitted to the game free. In addition, adult general admission tickets are just $0.20, when purchasing five or more, in celebration of the New Year.
The Pioneers and Warriors are meeting for the 17th time, with the Pioneers holding a 13-3 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last met at the 1998 Merrimack Tournament, a 93-79 Pioneers win on December 27th of that year. The first meeting came in 1966, a 115-96 win by the Warriors. The Pioneers earned their first win in the series on December 4, 1968, 82-76, on the road.
