
Welch Claims Individual Title; Host Take 2nd at SHU Fall Classic

Pioneers shave eight strokes off first round total.
MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team had the top two players at the SHU Fall Classic, but couldn't come through with the team title. The Pioneers finished the fall campaign second at the Great River Golf Club.
SHU tallied a 36-hole total of 612 (310-302) but wound up nine strokes behind Boston University. The Pioneers bested Dartmouth by six shots.
Junior Kailee Welch built a two-stroke lead on Monday and held off teammate Chantel El Chaib during the second 18 holes. Welch recorded a winning score of 145 (71-74) to edge El Chaib (74-72) by a stroke. Sophomore Margot Rouquette was four strokes better on Monday to take 15th at 158 (81-77). The biggest improvement came from senior Chelsea Thakkar for a 168 (89-79). Four strokes back was first-year Jensie Nicholas at 172 (84-88).
A trio of players teed it up as individual entrants with Christina Massei shooting 174 (88-86). Sophomore Kerry Kline shave nine strokes off her day one total for a 197 (103-94). Rounding out the scores was Cora Koproski at 208 (103-105).
Sacred Heart is done with competitions until the spring season kicks off in 2022.
