Isabelle Chamberlain’s late quarter goal wasn’t enough to secure the win
LOWELL, Mass. — Isabelle Chamberlain knotted the game 1-1 before the half, but the Sacred Heart University field hockey couldn't hold off UMass Lowell. The Pioneers lost, 3-1, to the River Hawks on Sunday.
UMass Lowell led off the scoring halfway through the second quarter to take a 1-0 lead off a short pass for a sliding top in. With four minutes left in the second, Chamberlain evened the playing field with an off-balance reverse stick chip-in goal for her first this season.
The final two goals for the River Hawks came in the fourth quarter when Rozema Berball regained the lead off a reverse stick shot from the wing. UML's Hannah Keefe's second goal of the night to seal the Red & White's fate with six minutes remaining.
Goalkeepers Erin Burgess and Samantha Maresca spilt time between the poles. Burgess had three saves in the first half, while Maresca had two for the remaining quarters.
Kayla Kruk led the team with five shots and two on goal as the only Pioneer to play the full 60 minutes.
UMass Lowell more than doubled the visitors in shots 17-8 and took 11 corners compared to the Pioneers' nine.
Sacred Heart heads home to face Northeast Conference opponent Merrimack in the team's Heart To Heart game at 7 p.m. on October 8.
