
Women's Fencing Garners 2-0 Victory Over St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. — At a dual meet, the Sacred Heart University women's fencing program went 2-0 on the day at St. John's, with a 15-12 and 14-13 victory, on Sunday. The team travels to LIU on March 17 to compete in the previously postponed match against the Sharks at 12:30 p.m.
Round 1:
- The Pioneers took the crown in a 5-4 defeat over St. John's epee team.
- Ashley Cherry went 3-0 in the epee with Grace Hand and Julie Rocklein each contributing one.
- SHU's foil threesome garnered a 6-3 win over SJU's only two fencers to compete, with Allyson Stejakoski, Chloe Mok and Tia Petrides all tallying a point.
- The Johnnies saber squad consisted of only two, defeating the Pioneers 5-4.
- Sophie Witek added one point in the saber for her team.
Round 2:
- Cherry and Hand both won two bouts in the teams 5-4 defeat in the epee event.
- Cui Chechen, Mok and Petrides stacked one point each in the squads 6-3 victory over the Johnnies two foil fencers.
- The Pioneers only participated in six of the nine matches in the saber, with SJU coming out on top with a 5-4 victory.
- Witek was the only fencer to add a point for the saber squad.
