
Pioneers Place Seventh at SHU Invitational

MILTON, Conn. – In a tune-up for this weekend's Northeast Conference Championship, the Sacred Heart University women's golf team faced some tough competition at its own SHU Invitational at Great River Golf Club. The hosts finished the two-day event in seventh.
Boston College won the event by 10 strokes over St. John's with a 596. The Pioneers were a stroke better on Monday to tie Monmouth with a 625.
Pacing the Pioneers was rookie Margot Rouquette as she was four shots better on the second 18 holes for a two-day score of 148 (76-72) to tie for fifth. Matching her first round was Kailee Welch with back-to-back 76s to tie for 13th at 152. Sophomore Chelsea Thakkar tied for 34th at 158 (77-81) and senior Maya Isom carded a 167 (84-83). The best improvement came from junior Christina Massei who shaved five strokes for a 177 (91-86).
Two golfers competed as individuals. Cora Kaproski turned in a 190 (95-95) while Charlotte Huntington put up a 236 (113-123).
The conference championship is April 16-18 at Penn National Golf Club.
