
Pioneers Beat Holy Cross at Home

Three Pioneers had 12 points
FAIRFIELD, Conn.--The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team had three players score 12 points each to lead the Pioneers to a 66-62 over Holy Cross on Thursday morning in the Pitt Center.

Raheem Solomon had 10 points in the opening half to lead Sacred Heart in the opening 20 minutes. The Pioneers were up by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Crusaders climbed their way back to cut the deficit to six, 29-23, with 1:42 left in the first. McGuire, who made his first appearance since November 13th, made a jumper at 1:15 to give the Pioneers a 31-23 halftime advantage.
Sacred Heart took its largest lead of the game at 15:59 in the second half off a layup from senior Joey Reilly to put the Pioneers up 42-31. The Crusaders answered with a run and took a quick 43-42 lead at 12:54. Neither team led by more than a point for the next two and a half minutes, but the Pioneers regained the lead and went up by nine from a dunk by Galette to put SHU up, 60-51. Holy Cross made a jumper with 52 second left in the game to bring the Crusaders within one, 63-62, but Sacred Heart put the game away with a jumper by Galette with 10 seconds remaining, followed by a free throw for Reilly for the 66-62 final.

Sacred Heart plays its first Northeast Conference game next Thursday, December 29th, at 2:00 PM. The Pioneers will host NEC newcomer Stonehill in the Pitt Center in the conference opener. Admission is free to everyone.
