Bryce Johnson posts career-high 22 points
HACKENSACK, N.J. – Sophomore Bryce Johnson posted his first 20-point performance and third double-double of his career, but it wasn't enough in the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team's 82-75 defeat at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.
Records:
Sacred Heart: 8-16, 4-9
Fairleigh Dickinson: 2-18, 3-10
Top Performers:
Bryce Johnson: 22 points, 13 rebounds
Aaron Clarke: 21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
Tyler Thomas: 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists
Up Next:
After postponing the original date due to a snowstorm, the Pioneers host Merrimack on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Of Note:
After a layup from Tyler Thomas to extend SHU's four-point lead, FDU converted a dunk into an and one to spark a 19-2 run. The run gave the Knights a 13-point cushion that they were able to ride out for the remainder of the game.
Sacred Heart chipped away at the FDU lead in the second half and got as close as three with 12 minutes remaining, but a 10-2 push sealed the win.
The Pioneers struggled from behind the arc, shooting just four-of-21 and 1-of-11 in the second half. Searching for another way to put the ball in the basket, SHU grabbed 17 points from the charity stripe.
Johnson led the team with his third double-double of the season and a career-high 22 points. The sophomore was nearly perfect from the field as he went eight-for-nine from the field.
Senior Aaron Clarke notched his second-straight 21-point game off seven-of-16 shooting and a six-for-nine clip from the stripe. Junior Tyler Thomas contributed 13 points and four rebounds.
