Sacred Heart Track & Field Completes at Rider

Three Pioneers earn first place

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.— The Sacred Heart University women's and men's track and field teams participated in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Rider 5-Way Meet on Saturday.
 
The women claimed second with 160 points while the men finished in third at 94 points.
 
Kaylee Stenderowicz led the charge on the women's side as she registered first in the long jump on a personal best 5.38m leap. Tara Brody also recorded a PR in the event as she notched second place at 5.37m.
 
Abbie Mokwuah had top-five finishes in the throws, tallying third with an 11.91m throw in the shot put and fourth on a PR of 34.37m in the discus.
 
Sacred Heart also had other top-five scorers in the throws. Sarah Mitchell notched second in the discus at 35.81m. Lauren Tanner (37.02m) and Sierrah Rich (33.88m) registered second and fifth, respectively, in the javelin.
 
In the pole vault, Hope Handlin earned a persona-best 3.25m to finish second. Jenna Engels (3.10m) and Emma Viggiano (2.80m) followed in third and fourth, respectively.
 
Brigit Kelly crossed the finish line in second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:56.36. Teammate Iseabailla Hewitt followed in fourth with 13:56.36.
 
Madeline Archangelo (1.45m) and Sarah Lamoreaux (1.40m) registered third and fourth place in the high jump. Angela Kaiser (10:57.54) and Kelly Parker (11:10.24) earned third and fifth in the 3000m run. Nicole Szilagyi achieved a personal best time of 15.04 for third in the 100m hurdles. 
 
Three SHU relay teams competed in the 400 relay, led by the team of Kimora Johnson, Maya Mocarski, Prithika Satish and Brody that placed third at 51.09.
 
On the men's side, Cameron Croce (48.87m) and Daniel DiGangi (4.35m, PR) topped first in the hammer throw and pole vault.
 
Joseph Morrone claimed second on a personal best time of 15.95, while Bryan Bushey followed in third at 16.58 in the 110 hurdles. Kevin Martin (9:12.11) and Gediyon Prince (9:13.11) finished fourth and fifth in the 3000m run.
 
In the javelin, Alexander Weiler threw for a personal-best 46.41m to earn third. Albert DePierro IV finished fifth at 40.34m.
 
Other top-five individual performances included Austin Cekuta (3rd, 11:08.21 PR) in the 3000m steeplechase, Andrew McInnis (4th, 1:06.28) in the 400m hurdles and Jonathan Mahon  (5th, 49.89) in the 400m dash.
 
The team of Ryan Corbett, Lance Hayes, Benjamin Healy, Dominic Miele and Shane Negast crossed the finish line in third at 3:27.35 in the 1600m relay.
 
Up next, Sacred Heart travels to Rhode Island for the Bryant Black & Gold Invitational on April 1 & 2.
