Men’s Golf in Fourth at NEC Championship

Three Pioneers tied for eighth.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It was an up and down day for the Sacred Heart University men's golf team at the Northeast Conference Championship. The Pioneers rallied from a slow start and are in fourth after Friday's opening 18 holes at the LPGA International Hills Course.

Sacred Heart posted a round of 309 but is only five strokes out of the lead. Mount St. Mary's is the round-one leader at 304. Saint Francis followed at 307 and LIU at 309.

Sophomore Marcus Lim as well as rookies Jonah Camarillo and Eoin Freeman all posted 77 to tie for eighth. Lim and Camarillo had opposite days with Lim going out in 36, but coming back in 41. Camarillo started his first championship at 41 but shot even-par 36 on the back. Freeman was the most consisted Pioneer, shooting 38 on the front and 39 on the inward nine.

Also making his NEC Championship debut was rookie Blake Moreno. He posted identical nine-hole scores of 39 for a 78 that has him tied for 13^th. Senior Nathan Kim rounded out the scores with an 82.

Round two starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with the Pioneers paired with Fairleigh Dickinson.
