Pioneers Finish In Top Two At SCSU Invite

Women take first; Men claim second

NEW HAVEN, Conn.— Sacred Heart University men's and women's track & field both finished in the top two at the Southern Connecticut State Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Invitational on Saturday.
 
The women won the meet with a score of 203 points. On the men's side, the Pioneers compiled 121 points to finish second.
 
Kaylee Stenderowicz broke her school record for the third time in the triple jump on a 12.12m leap. The junior also posted a PR of 5.50m to claim second in the long jump.
 
The Pioneers placed one-two-three in two events. Megan Schneider (1st, 2:23.94), Margaret O'Neill (2nd, 2:26.93) and Jacqueline Lage (3rd, 2:32.57) swept the top spots in the 800m. Abbie Mokwuah (1st, 13.72m), Sarah Mitchell (2nd, 34.87m) and Brianna Diaz (3rd, 32.77m) earned the accolades in the discus.
 
Mokwuah also threw for a Northeast Conference-leading 13.72m to win the shot put. Teammates Samantha Curran (11.23m) and Sarah Mitchell (11.23m) tied for third in the event.
 
Other individual victories for the women included Maya Mocarski (12.35 (PR)) in the 100m, Jennifer Pasram (3.50m) in the pole vault and Anastasia Sloan (5:08.42 (PR)) in the 1500m.
 
Other top-three finishers included Allison Plante (2nd, 48.03m) and Molly Kearns (3rd, 45.64m) in the hammer throw, Sierrah Rich (2nd, 34.67m) in the javelin, Kimora Johnson (3rd, 15.87) in the 100m hurdles, Prithika Satish (3rd, 25.59 (PR)) in the 200m and Tara Shipos (3rd, 12:06.18) in the 3,000m.
 
The team Mocarski, Satish, Stenderowicz and Megan Wassick earned second in the 4x400m at 50.45.
 
During the men's competition, Matthew Zawaski crossed the finish line in first on a time of 22.34 in the 200m. Rafael Mahario won the 400m on a personal best time of 49.16, while Dominic Miele finished third with a PR time of 50.54. Ryan Corbett recorded a time of 1:58.86 to notch first in the 800m and Jordan Leon ran 1:59.36 to claim third.
 
Cameron Croce threw for 56.57m to finish second in the hammer throw. Trevor Middleton posted third in the 5,000m on a personal best time of 17:12.05.
 
The team of Miele, James Moore, Nicholas Pelletier and Jack Sarkisian placed second at 3:49.98 in the 4x400m relay.
 
Up next, Sacred Heart travels to Emmitsburg, Md for the NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 7-8 at Mount St. Mary's.
