Team plans to donate $2,500 to the cause
FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team will host its Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer fundraiser game on Thursday against Manhattan College at 7 p.m. on Park Ave Field.
"There are very few lives that haven't been touched by cancer in some form, whether it be by losing a loved one, relative, friend or friend of a friend. We have decided to do our part to help in some small way," said head coach Matt Micros. "While cancer is an awful disease, it especially hits home when it impacts our youth and if we can do anything to help them beat it and live their lives to the fullest, that's what we are going to try and do."
Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011. Since then, professional, college, high school, and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the most prevalent disease killer of children. To date, over a half million athletes have supported their cause. From every $5 pair of laces, 4$ is contributed and 100% of all donations directly benefit kids and families in the state where the funds are raised.
The team plans to donate $2,500 to the Go4theGoal Foundation. These funds were collected from their second annual Spin and Bowl Fundraiser, where all players and coaches rode 10 miles on the spin bikes and bowled two games for charity. Each player and coach got sponsors for any amount they wanted to give; which was typically between $10 to $500.
