Pioneers Take Down Big Green at Home

Joey Reilly led three players in double figures
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Joey Reilly scored a game-high 19 points, leading three players in double figures as the Sacred Heart men's basketball team took down Dartmouth 67-57 at home in front of a packed crowd at the Pitt Center on Thursday afternoon.

After trailing by one at halftime, Sacred Heart had a strong second half, shooting 54.84% from the field, outscoring Dartmouth 40-29 to take the 67-57 final.
The Big Green led by no more than four points through the opening part of the second half. After going ahead, 37-34, Kyle McGee hit a jumper for SHU at 14:18 that sparked a 12-point run, capped by an Alex Sobel dunk to give the Pioneers a 45-37 advantage in the second half.
Dartmouth pulled within five, with just over five minutes remaining, but SHU could not be stopped. Five straight points from McGee gave the Pioneers a 10-point lead for the first double-digit advantage of the day at 56-46.
With just under two minutes to go, the Big Green cut their deficit to eight, but a timely Reilly jumper beat the shot clock to put SHU back up by 10. McGee made the final four free throws of the day as the Pios maintained the 10-point lead through the remainder of the game for the 67-57 final.
Dartmouth knocked down a three to go ahead 11-9 at 11:02 in the opening half, but Reilly answered with the next four points to extend SHU's lead to 13-11. The Big Green didn't stay down for long as they took a 24-18 lead at 4:35 in the first half. However, the Pioneers scored the following nine points, including a three-pointer from Mike Sixsmith to take a 27-26 edge with 1:04 left before the break. Dartmouth was able to make a jumper to take the 28-27 lead heading into halftime.
Reilly matched his season-high 19 points, going 6-for-11 from the field, knocking down a trio of three-pointers. McGee was almost perfect from the field, going 5-for-6, and went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Alex Sobel had a game-high four blocks and led the Pios in rebounds with nine.
