
Bourgeois Headlines Women's Track and Field at Yale Season Opener

Graduate athlete claims two event wins
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A career day for Lea Bourgeois on the track highlighted the finale of the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team schedule for the calendar year after completing competition at the Yale Season Opener on Saturday.
Bourgeois completed the day with two podium finishes on the track, setting a personal best 9.14 second mark in the finals of the 60m hurdles while also setting a personal best 5.47m mark in the long jump to take the gold.
Elsewhere on the track, Grace DelGiorno and Grace Sousa took second and third, respectively, in the women's mile while Jessica Pigott took home third place in the women's 3000m. In jumps, first year Lauryn Piccirelli took third place after clearing 1.55m while Jenna Engels and Jennifer Pasram tied for second place in pole vault having both cleared 3.35m on their first attempts. Following Bourgeois' win in the long jump, junior Erin Lavelle took second place while Kaylee Stenderowicz claimed second in the triple jump.
The Pios had one podium placement in throws as sophomore Taylor Moore took home a third-place honor in shot put after setting a personal-best 11.69m on her first attempt.
