
Women's Track Field Takes Five Event Wins at West Point Open

Brogioli earns second ECAC/IC4A qualification during meet
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Five event victories culminated in a successful day for the Sacred Heart University women's track and field squad as it finished competition at the Army West Point Open on Saturday afternoon.
In sprints, the Pios took three podium finishes including sophomore Magdalena Brogioli's gold medal showing in the 60 meter dash. Brogioli finished in a personal-best time of 7.77 seconds which leads the Pios in that event while also giving her a second ECAC/IC4A qualifier after previously qualifying in the 60m hurdles at the Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational. Sophomore Jada Alston racked up the silver medal in the 60 meter dash with personal-best of 7.87 seconds. Rounding out the podium finishes in sprints, junior Tori Chorzepa earned the bronze with a time of 28.09 in the 200 meters.
The Red & White took home top spots in two of the distance events while also earning seven podium placements in the process. In the 1000 meters, Megan Schneider took the gold with a time of 3:17.44 while Emily Raymond and Emma Doran took silver and bronze, respectively as the Pios swept the medal placements in the event. In the mile, Jessica Pigott and Kelly Parker took gold and silver, respectively, while mid-distance runners Olivia Suter and Alexandra Bold took silver and bronze, respectively, in the 500 meters.
SHU also placed well in jumps, earning nine podium finishes highlighted by Cali Terranova's event win in the 60m hurdles. Terranova took home the gold with a time of 9.41 before fellow teammates Amanda Galasso and Brooke DeWeese finished in second and third to take the second podium sweep of the competition for the Pios.
Elsewhere in jumps, Diamani Canuto took second in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 8.10 meters while in the pole vault, Jenna Engels took bronze with a mark of 3.35 meters. The Pios continued their dominance in jumps, taking silver and bronze in both long jump and triple jump Brogioli and junior Erin Lavelle took second and third, respectively, in the long jump before Lavelle and sophomore Ava Srinivasan took silver and bronze, respectively, in triple jump.
In throws, the Pios received two medal finishes both in the B Section of shot put as sophomore Zaida Witkowski and first year Trinity Hall placed first and second, respectively, recording the last event wins of the day for the Red & White.
