SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team got better each round at the Savannah Intercollegiate, played on The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Pioneers finished 11th in the two-day event.
Sacred Heart posted a 902 (309-300-293) to finish just back of Lafayette. Columbia won the event with a score of 856.
Posting an even-par 72 – tied for the lowest round of the tournament on the squad – for a 20th place finish of 220 (73-75-72) was junior Marcus Lim. Rookie Michael Rothberg was just two over on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 226 (80-72-74).
Sophomore Eoin Freeman was the only Pioneer to get better each round as he fired a 73 in the final 18 holes for a 229 (81-75-73). A stroke back of him was first year Pablo Lacayo with rounds of 78-78-74. Wrapping up the team scores was Jason Pelley with a 246.
SHU's next competition is also in the South as it hosts the SHU Spring Break Invitational, March 9-10, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
