
Pioneers Win SHU Spring Invitational

El Chaib secured her third medalist honor of the season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Chantal El Chaib earned medalist honors, and Jensie Nicholas finished second to propel the Sacred Heart University women's golf team to a victory at the SHU Spring Invitational, hosted on Monday and Tuesday at the Jones Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Pioneers earned their fourth championship of the season with a two-day score of 605 (+29) to best the 11-team field. SHU carded a tournament-low score of 297 on day one on Monday before shooting a 308 today. The Pios finished four strokes clear of second-place Fairleigh Dickinson (609).
El Chaib was the most consistent golfer at the event, carding an identical score of one-over 73 on both days, which was tied for the lowest round shot at the event. El Chaib earned her third medalist honor of the season after winning the BC Invite and SHU Fall Classic.
Nicholas tied El Chaib with the day-one lead after carding a 73 (+1) before her 76 (+4) on day two was good enough to take second by one stroke. Margot Rouquette finished next for SHU, placing in a tie for third with a two-day score of six-over 150 (74-76).
Rounding out the Pios' top-10 finishers was Kailee Welch in a tie for sixth. The senior carded an eight-over 152 (73-79) after also finishing tied for first following the opening round. Welch matched El Chaib for the tournament lead with six birdies over the two days.
In addition to its four top-10 finishers, Jessie Burch, Maya Robilio, Chelsea Thakkar, and Emma Preissing also competed for Sacred Heart at the event. Burch placed in a tie for 20th with a score of 158 (77-81), finishing sixth strokes clear of Robilio (164) in a tie for 36th. Wrapping up the Pios' participants were Thakkar (168) in a tie for 43rd and Preissing (174) in a tie for 56th.
The Pioneers hit the links again on Monday, March 27, to kick off the two-day Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at The River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
