NEC RELEASE
SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference released its Indoor Track & Field All-Northeast Conference Teams for 2022-23 on Wednesday afternoon, and the Sacred Heart University men's track and field team had five members recognized.
Leading the group was graduate student
Cameron Croce as he was tabbed Most Outstanding Field Performer for throws and was named All-NEC First Team in the weight throw. The Hope, R.I., native racked up two wins during the indoor season, including taking first at the NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a throw of 18.25m, the best mark in the conference this season.
Joining Croce with an All-NEC First Team nod was senior
Owen Nassaney, who did so in the high jump. The product of North Attleboro, Mass., claimed three first-place finishes in the high jump over the indoor campaign. In addition, he won the event at the NEC Indoors (2.01m) and set a new personal record at the Yale Season Opener (2.09m), which broke a 24-year-old school record.
The Pios' lone honoree on the All-NEC Second Team was SHU's 4x400 relay team of
Rafael Mahario,
Dominic Miele,
Jonathan Mahon, and
Joseph Morrone. The team finished second at NEC Indoors with a time of 3:17.37.
Sacred Heart had two competitors named to the All-Rookie Team, as
Blake Stewart made it for the long jump, and
Dylan Hunt made it for the triple jump. Stewart placed 13th in the long jump at NECs with a mark of 6.32m and posted a season-best finish of seventh at the 2023 DeSchriver Invitational the week prior. Hunt set a PR at NECs and finished eighth with a mark of 13.08m. He started the year by finishing a season-best third in the triple jump at the Yale Season Opener.
