SHU Well Represented in NEC Winter Honor Rolls and Scholar-Athlete Awards

Manetta and McNicholas claim scholar-athlete awards for their respective sports

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Northeast Conference honored the academic achievements of its winter student-athletes this week, debuting the 2022-23 NEC Winter Scholar-Athletes, Academic Honor Roll & Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Sacred Heart University had a fantastic showing, tallying two scholar-athletes, the second most in the league. In addition, 157 Pioneers made the Academic Honor Roll, and 74 SHU student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Highlighting the honorees for Sacred Heart were Hannah Manetta (women's bowling) and Olivia McNicholas (women's swimming and diving), as they were named Winter Scholar-Athletes.
SHU has claimed the last six women's bowling scholar-athletes with Manetta winning the last two. The Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., native is coming off another impressive campaign, as she made her second All-NEC Team and was tabbed All-Region by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association. Manetta held a .510 strike percentage and a 19.34 pins-per-frame average in league play, which ranked third and 10th, respectively. She has played a key role in the Pioneers' success this year as it won its sixth NEC Championship and made its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Manetta, an Interdisciplinary Studies major, holds a 3.92 GPA and is a three-time NEC Academic and Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
McNicholas was named co-winner of the women's swimming and diving scholar-athlete award after another stellar season. The junior from Hicksville, N.Y., won her second career NEC gold in February by claiming the top prize in the three-meter board at the NEC Championships. She also took fourth in the one-meter competition to claim 35 points at the meet. McNicholas' accolades also include being named the ECAC Winter Championship Diver of the Meet in December after winning both the one- and three-meter boards. At the ECACs, she set a new program record in the three-meter dive with a 259.00 score. She also won a whopping six NEC Diver of the Week honors in 2022-23, giving her 11 for her storied career. Academically, the three-time NEC Academic & Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient maintains a 3.79 GPA as a Nursing major.
