Lavelle Shows Out at William Sutherland III Invitational

Pioneer junior has career day as SHU grabs 11 medal finishes

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Erin Lavelle's two-medal performance encapsulated a successful outing for the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team at the William Sutherland III Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, on Friday. 
 
A native of East Longmeadow, Mass., Lavelle earned her fourth and fifth medals of the season during Friday's meet, taking a bronze medal in the long jump with a mark of 5.67m before earning her first-ever collegiate event win, taking the gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 11.37m on her final jump. Her marks in the triple jump and long jump were both personal bests.
 
Lavelle's showing in the triple jump was part of two medal sweeps for the Pioneers during Friday's outing. Ava Srinivasan's season-best 10.95m mark in the triple jump was good for silver while first year Annalise Nassy's 10.22m mark took bronze. 
 
Elsewhere in jumps, the Pios took their second event win of the day with Chloe Amos' first-ever event victory in the pole vault. Her personal-best mark of 3.25m was .3 meters ahead of her closest competitor. Rounding out the medals in pole vault was junior Erin Dunn her took the bronze medal with a mark of 2.95m as the Pios bookended the medals in the event. 
 
On the track, the Pios took their second medal sweep of the day in the 3000m as Rebecca Dowling earned her first-ever event win with a time of 11:31.53. Kyla Coughlin took second-place with a time of 12:36.24 while Emily Arthur grabbed the bronze medal, securing a new personal-best time of 13:02.48. In the mid-distance, Emma Doran and Mollie Story narrowly missed out on the podium in the 800m, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. 
 
The Red & White earned two more medal performances to close out the day as Cali Terranova took the silver medal in the 55m hurdles, completing the race in 8.66 seconds while the 4x400m relay quartet of Story, Doran, Mia Breauninger and Jayden Darris-O'Connor took second place to complete the day.
