Tristine and Sanders Show Out at West Point Open

Tristine takes gold while Sanders earns silver to highlight competition
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Edward Tristine's top finish is the 3000 meters highlighted a spectacular distance day for the Sacred Heart University men's track and field team as it finished competition at the Army West Point Open Saturday afternoon.
Tristine, a graduate transfer from Boston College, took home the gold medal with a time of 8:32.25, which sets a new season-best for the Red & White. In the other distance events, three Pios earned podium spots as juniors Jordan Leon and James Moore placed second and third in the men's 1000 meters, respectively, with Moore having finished with a season-best time of 2:41.16. Sophomore Patrick Curreri rounded out the podium finishes for SHU in distance taking third place in the mile with a season-best time of 4:34.43.
In sprints, the Pios received good showings as Rafael Mahario claimed eighth in the 60 meter dash with a season-best finish of 7.04 seconds, while first year multi-event athlete Joshua Sanders claimed sixth in the 400m with a season-best time of 53.68.
In jumps, first year Damon Wilson took home the bronze in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.69 seconds while fellow Pioneers Benjamin Healy earned a season-best time of 9.13 in the event, taking home seventh. In the high jump, Nazir Hibbert placed fourth with a mark of 1.87 meters while Hunter Harris narrowly missed the podium in the triple jump, setting a mark of 12.27 meters. The Pios received another medal finish in the men's long jump as Sanders took home silver with a season-best mark of 6.68 meters.
In throws, the Pios earned the top three spots in the B Section of the shot put event with Liam Tharin taking the top-spot, setting a mark of 12.55 meters. Anthony DePasquale and Connor Wilkinson-Feickert rounded out the podium finishes in the event with season-best marks of 12.51m and 12.50m, respectively. In weight throw, junior Daniel Blatman took the highest finish for the Pios with a mark of 15.90m while in weight throw Section B, Maxwell Gibbs just missed out on a podium placement with a mark of 12.10m.
