First year heptathlete grabs third event win of the season
NEW YORK — Ariyana Jackson's bronze medal highlighted a successful outing for the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team as it concluded competition at the Rutgers University Scarlet Knight Open on Saturday.
The first year heptathlete captured SHU's lone medal of the meet, claiming third in shot put as part of 14 top-10 finishes for the Pios during the two-day meet. Jackson snatched her third event win of the season after setting a mark of 11.70m on her third throw in the event. Taylor Moore and Madeline Archangelo also placed in the top-10 in the event with fifth and seventh place finishes, respectively.
In the remaining field events, Trinity Hall claimed a new personal record in the weighted throw, earning a mark of 13.06m for a sixth-place finish. Lauren Morales also placed inside the top-10 in the event, claiming ninth with a mark of 12.03m. In pole Vault, junior Jenna Engels claimed ninth after clearing 3.55m while Magdalena Brogioli earned ninth in the high jump, clearing 1.60m.
SHU claimed its remaining top-10 finishes on the track, taking ninth place in the 4x200m relay and eighth place in the 4x400m relay. In hurdles, Brooke DeWeese and Amanda Galasso claimed fourth and fifth, respectively in the unseeded section while Archangelo and Brogioli claimed fifth and seventh in the finals section. Brogioli and Archangelo also claimed IC4A qualifying status in the event after earning times of 8.94 and 8.97 in prelims.
SHU concluded its string of top-10 finishes with Jillian Audette claiming fifth place in the unseeded section of the 60m dash as the first year sprinter set a time of 8.05 seconds.
