BOSTON — The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team wrapped up its regular season of indoor competition claiming ninth place out of 29 teams at the New England Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The Pioneers were led by three podium finishes during the meet, starting with Rafael Mahario claiming his fourth podium finish of the season in the men's 400m dash taking third place with a time of 47.97 after qualifying in fourth place in preliminary competition. The Pios also claimed third place in the men's distance medley relay as the quartet of Ryan Jaipaul, Dominic Miele, David Parenteau and Kevin Martin finished in 11:25.47 in SHU's first running of the event this season.
Benjamin Healy had a strong showing in the men's heptathlon, earning career-bests in the 60m dash, shot put and pole vault en route to a third-place finish. Healy earned podium placements with a 7.18 second finish in the 60m dash, which was good for second place, while taking third in the shot put with a mark of 11.45m. SHU solidified its top-10 team finish with a fifth place finish in the 4x800m as the squad of Patrick Curreri, Jordan Leon, Michael Mason and Owen Parker finished the race in an IC4A-quyalifying time of 7:57.85 to round out the scoring for the Pioneers across the two-day meet.
