Men's T&F Places Four at Rider 5-Way

Pios finish with third-place team score in outdoor opener
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Edward Tristine's win in the 3000 meters highlighted a successful outing for the Sacred Heart University men's track and field team as it began the outdoor season with a third-place team finish at the Rider University 5-Way on Friday. The Pioneers took third with a total team score of 88 point, finishing below hosts Rider and NJIT while defeating Northeast Conference (NEC) competitors FDU, who finished fifth.
Tristine finished as one of four Pioneers to medal in Friday's meet, taking the 3000 meters by just over one second to give SHU 10 points toward the team total and giving him his third win in the 3000 meters this year. Michael Mason and Matthew Vene rounded out the scoring in the 3000m, finishing in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Connor Meikle took bronze in the 400m dash, grabbing a medal with a personal-best finish of 50.95 seconds.
In field, sophomore Douglas Suter took second place in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 3.80m for his best clearance and first medal in the event this spring. In throws, Daniel Blatman grabbed a silver medal in the hammer throw, setting a mark of 48.03 on his first throw as one of three Pios to score in the event.
SHU earned 46 of its 88 total points on the track including the medal performance from Tristine and Meikle. Joshua Sanders led the way in the 100m dash, setting a personal-record time of 11.93 seconds, which was good for fourth place while Joel Delorbe Jr. and Aidan Riccardo took sixth and eighth place, respectively. In the 110m hurdles, Damon Wilson tacked on two points for the Pios with a seventh-place finish while Navon Fry grabbed an identical seventh-place finish in the 400m hurdles.
In throws, Cole Decusati grabbed seventh in the discus while Joshua Wood and Maxwell Gibbs earned points in the hammer throw with fifth and eighth place finishes. In the debut of the javelin cohort, Mason Marino, Devin DiMartino and Joshua Sanders all scored for SHU with Marino barely missing the podium, placing fourth. Aidan Glennon finished the scoring in throws with a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 13.79m.
Sanders claimed the lone points for SHU in the long jump, taking fourth with a mark of 6.58m while Dylan Hunt claimed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.70m to conclude the day's scoring for the Pioneers.
