
Quartet of Pios Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

Carroll, Heath, Kowalski and LoPinto were recognized for their work on and off the field
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After helping the Sacred Heart University softball team to an impressive 2024 season, Emily Carroll, Emily Heath, Sam Kowalski and Victoria LoPinto all earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators.
The Pioneers finished the 2024 season with a 27-29 overall record and a 16-8 mark in league play to qualify for the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship for the first time since 2021. Sacred Heart's win total was the team's highest since 2019.
Carroll made her second consecutive Academic All-District Team this season, while Heath, Kowalski and LoPinto made their first. These Pioneers were recognized for their performances on the field and in the classroom, as the honorees had to meet certain academic and on-field competition minimums.
Carroll concluded her collegiate career with a stellar senior campaign, with a .254 batting average, 24 runs and 15 RBIs. The Ballston Lake, N.Y., native also collected eight doubles and two homers. Carroll graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance this May and maintained an outstanding 3.98 cumulative GPA.
Heath was stellar in her sophomore season, claiming All-NEC Second Team honors. The second-year pitcher from Coventry, R.I., owned a 12-12 overall record with a 2.91 earned run average. She struck out 89 batters over 151.1 innings pitched, going an impressive 7-3 in NEC play. Heath holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a Biology major.
Kowalski joined Heath as the Pioneers' two strongest pitchers in 2024. Kowalski led SHU with 178.2 innings pitched, with a 15-12 record and a 2.98 ERA. The San Clemente, Calif., native fanned a team-best 172 batters and finished with 17 complete games and five shutouts. At the plate, Kowalski hit .296 with 20 RBIs, 13 runs, five doubles and a home run. She heads into the next academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.56 as a Psychology major.
SHU's final honoree was LoPinto, who also concluded her collegiate career this season. The senior outfielder had a breakout season at the plate, setting new career highs in batting average (.242), hits (40), runs (32), RBIs (24), doubles (6), triples (4) and home runs (9). She led the team in runs, triples and homers. LoPinto graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a cumulative GPA of 3.60.
