SHU Finishes 12th at NCAA Bryan Regional
Final Leaderboard
BRYAN, Texas – Chantal El Chaib has been the model of consistency for the Sacred Heart Women's Golf Team the last three years. She capped her career with the Pioneers by shooting even-par 72 while finishing 21st with a three-round +4.
El Chaib led SHU today to a third-round 308 and an overall 921 that put the one Northeast school in this NCAA Regional in 12th place, a stroke behind Arkansas Littlerock.
The senior who will play her final collegiate season next year at the University of South Florida was 2022 conference rookie of the year and 2023 player of the year. El Chaib saved par on hole two after her tee shot plugged in the rough and she recovered with a chip to 10 feet and a great putt.
"I wanted to finish well in my last round. My main goal was to have fun and enjoy my last round of SHU golf," said Eli Chaib after firing a 148-yard shot to within nine feet of the stick on the final hole. "I was just happy with par," she said after completing the tournament with 74-74-72.
This was the final day of competition together for a Pio grad student and two seniors. Captain Kailee Welch, El Chaib and Margot Rouquette (2024 conference player of year) have been the driving force behind three consecutive conference championships in addition to numerous other regular-season successes.
Welch, who saved a pair of pars with fantastic up and downs from bunkers, made a 40-foot putt on No. 11 that also saved par. She ended her collegiate career by nailing a long putt on the ninth to complete her tournament with 75-76-76, seven strokes behind El Chaib for 44th place.
LSU, SMU, Clemson, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M advanced to the national championship in California, while Ohio State, Iowa State and Maryland were some of the other schools that did not qualify.
