Women’s Hockey Heads to Franklin Pierce for Weekend Pair

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart women's hockey team begins the home stretch of NEWHA regular season play with a two-game weekend series at Franklin Pierce. The two teams meet Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at noon at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
The Pioneers enter the weekend in second place with 48 points, one fewer than LIU. The Sharks play a home-and-home series with Post on Thursday and Friday.
OF NOTE:
• The Pioneers (16-11-3, 15-6-3 (NEWHA) are unbeaten in their last four road games (3-0-1).
• Sacred Heart is coming off a weekend split with Saint Michael's, taking three of the six available points. Sacred Heart dropped game one 3-1 but rebounded to defeat the Purple Knights 5-1 on Senior Day.
• Alyssa Antonakis scored twice, while Paige McNeil and Grayson Limke each added two assists in Saturday's victory over Saint Michael's.
• The Pioneers are third in the nation with nine shutouts, trailing national leader Quinnipiac by two.
• Sacred Heart (1.87 goals allowed per game) is second in the NEWHA in scoring defense, trailing only LIU (1.70).
• The Pioneers haven't allowed more than three goals in a game since Nov. 30 (4-2 loss to UConn).
• Isabella Chaput leads the Red & White in goals (11) and points (16) heading into the weekend.
• Kailey Smith, Bria Holm, and Olivia LaRoche top the team in assists with seven, with Holm tallying her seventh this past Friday.
• SHU holds a 23-21-5 record through 49 contests against Frankin Pierce. The Pios swept FPU earlier this season.
ON FRANKLIN PIERCE
• The Ravens (13-12-1, 13-10-1 NEWHA) come into the weekend fourth in the NEWHA. Last weekend, FPU visited LIU, but was swept, losing 3-2 and 2-1.
• FPU brings a balanced attack, as Mikayla Kelley leads in points (21), Maggie Korneta leads in assists (15), and Brynn Levinson leads the team in goals (12). Levinson is also tied for second in the country with eight power play goals.
• In goal, Jill Hertl has received the bulk of action, recording a .931 SV% and 2.38 GAA in 22 games.
• David Stockdale leads Franklin Pierce. The only coach in program history, Stockdale was the recipient of the 2021-22 NEWHA Coach of the Year Award.
