MILTON, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team rose one spot on the final leaderboard at the Red Bandanna Invitational on Tuesday, finishing the Boston College-hosted event in seventh place.
The Pios had their best round of the event on Tuesday, marking a 308 today to finish with a team score of 942 (+78). SHU surged past hometown program BU (+83) to ascend the final standings. BC took the team crown with a final score of +22 to just edge day-one leaders Dartmouth (+23) in a thrilling result.
Maite Cantu led the way for SHU after a career round on the links. The sophomore from Mexico City tallied the best score on the day with a career-best two-under 70. Cantu's outstanding day was highlighted by an eagle three on hole 18 after a birdie on 16. After her exciting round, Cantu climbed 17 spots to finish in a tie for 14th with a score of 226 (+10).
Jessie Burch continued the strong start to her senior season by placing in a tie for 29th. The Dublin, Calif., followed rounds of 83 and 73 with a 75 today for a final score of 233 (+17).
Maegan Pungsuwan placed next for the Pioneers in a tie for 42nd. The first year tallied consistent rounds of 77, 80 and 81 to card a 22-over 238 for the event.
Garance Gueubel (+31),
Nahia Paulerena (+33) and
Jade Haylock (+46) rounded out the Pios' finishers in T57th, T60th and T70th. Gueubel led the trio with an 80 (+8), while Paulerena's round of 82 (+10) was the sophomore's best of the tournament.
The Pioneers return to the Nutmeg State next to host the SHU Fall Classic on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 29-30.
