Men's Track and Field Win Their First Indoor MAAC Championship

The Pios earned 16 podium finishes
New York, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team captured its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship in program history this weekend. Competing in a 17-event meet, the Pioneers delivered a dominant and well-rounded performance, totaling 114 points to secure the win.
After concluding day one in the lead, the Pioneers carried their momentum into day two. Sacred Heart came out strong, with Ian Crowley setting the tone early in the 60-meter hurdles. The first-year standout secured a second-place finish, clocking in at 8.24 seconds to earn eight valuable points for the Pioneers.
Colin Brown continued the championship push after placing third overall in the 60m. Brown finished in 6.93 seconds, which was good enough to grant the Pios six more points.
The Pioneers continued to assert their dominance in the 200 meters, taking over the top of the leaderboard. Gavin Alvarez captured first place with a time of 21.72, while Brown followed closely behind, continuing his stellar day with a second-place finish at 21.73. The one-two punch earned Sacred Heart a combined 18 points in the event.
The Pioneers had one more podium finish on the day. It was in the 4x400m relay where Rafael Mahario, Brown, Alvarez, Lance Hayes, Connor Meikle, and Brodie Proulx finished second overall with a time of 3:16.31. They were granted eight more points.

The Pioneers are back in action in two weeks, as they will travel to Boston for the New England Intercollegiate Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day event will kick off on Friday, March 6, at 10:00 am and will conclude the following day on Saturday, March 7.
