He becomes first Pioneer to make top 10 in program history
ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Wednesday afternoon, standout senior Felix Trudeau became the first Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey player to make the Top Ten of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, as announced on NHL Network.
In addition to being SHU's first player to make it this far in pursuit of collegiate hockey's highest honor, Trudeau becomes just the 16th player in the AHA's 23 seasons.
The Hobey Baker Award has been presented annually since 1981 to the nation's top Division I men's ice hockey player, in honor of former Princeton ice hockey and football star Hobey Baker, who served as a fighter pilot during World War I. Per the Hobey Baker Award website: "Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake… Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game."
Trudeau heads into this weekend leading the AHA with 25 goals and 47 assists. He paces the country with 12 power play goals, is second in total goals and hat tricks (2), third in game-winning goals (5), and is fifth in points. He is also second in SHU history in single-season goals and fourth in single-season points.
Just yesterday, Trudeau was named the AHA Player and Forward of the Year and was crowned the league's scoring champion. He was also a two-time AHA Forward of the Month and Week.
The Pioneers are set to head to Waltham, Mass., to play Bentley in the AHA Championship Game on Saturday, March 21. The bout is slated to start at 7 p.m.
