
Men's Tennis Earns Senior Day Win Against Merrimack

TRUMBULL, CONN. — The Sacred Heart men's tennis team earned a strong 5-2 victory on senior day over Merrimack College on March 21 at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
The Pioneers opened the match by securing the doubles point, winning on two of the three courts. The duo of Connor Liona and Paul Goncalves had a convincing 6-1 win at No. 2 Doubles. After Merrimack won at No. 3 Doubles, it was Tomasz Garbacz and Frederick McRae delivering a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, to give Sacred Heart an early 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Sacred Heart continued its momentum with four wins across the lineup. Martin Macias put the Pioneers in front early with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, followed by Darren Huang's 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3. McRae extended the lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 before Garbacz added another point at the top spot with a 6-3, 6-4 decision to clinch the match.
Merrimack picked up two late points at No. 6 and No. 4 singles, but Sacred Heart's early success proved to be the difference in the 5-2 team win.
They will look to extend their streak when they face the Quinnipiac Bobcats in North Haven tomorrow at 6:45 PM.
