Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker at Niagara

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4–3 decision to Niagara University on Saturday night at the Village Glen Tennis Club, dropping the Pioneers to 9–9 overall on the season and 5-3 in MAAC play.
The Pioneers secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The duo of Olivia Zuba and Ola Irla Bartyzel cruised to a 6–3 victory at first doubles. Up 1-0 in the doubles, it was Savita Bagiathan and Brooke Tuffs with a 6–3 win at the third position to clinch the point.
Bartyzel dominated at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6–1, 6–3 win. Savita Bagiathan earned a gritty 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. Niagara took wins at No.2, No. 4, No. 5 & No. 6 to seal the victory.
The Pioneers will next face non-conference opponent Holy Cross in Worcester, MA on April 14th at 3:00 PM.
