FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart University will participate in the inaugural MAAC Hockey League Challenge at the Arena at Harbor Yard on November 15, and March 6. The Pioneers will be part of a field that includes Quinnipiac University, Iona College, the University of Connecticut, and Fairfield University.
The Arena at Harbor Yard is in its second year of operation and is home to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. It seats 8,500 people for hockey games, and is also home to both the Fairfield University Men's and Women's Basketball teams. Its state-of-the-art hospitality features include: 33 Executive Suites, 1300 Club Seats, a private Club Lounge, 13 Loge suites and three party suites. It is considered one of the premier venues in the American Hockey League.
The event is being made possible in large part due to the efforts of Bridgesports Marketing--the firm responsible for the successful promotion of the Atlantic Baseball League's Bridgeport Bluefish and Major League Lacrosse's Bridgeport Barrage. Tickets will be sold through the individual school's ticket office as well as the Arena at Harbor Yard Box office. Prices will be $12.50 per adult for an individual date, $22 for the two date package, $8 for groups and youths 17 and under, and $6 for SHU students at the door with a valid college ID.
"The MAAC Hockey Challenge is another indication of the growth of the sport within the league and the willingness of member schools to cooperate on joint marketing projects," Richard J. Ensor, Commissioner of the MAAC said. "The Arena at Harbor Yard is a first class facility and our fans will enjoy cheering their teams in such great surroundings."
Sacred Heart and Connecticut will open the event on Friday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m., followed by Quinnipiac and Fairfield at 8:00 p.m. Iona and Connecticut will open the second date on Thursday, March 6, at 5:00 p.m., followed by Fairfield and Sacred Heart at 8:00 p.m. All four contests are MAAC regular season games.
