Men's Soccer loses in heartbreaking fashion

Fairfield, CT (October 10) - After rallying from a 3-0 deficit, the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team was defeated on a last minute goal by the St. Francis (NY) Terriers.
Vincenzo Conigliaro, Paul Nottoli and Carlos Moncaleano all scored first half goals to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead just 23:07 into the game. Despite the large deficit, the Pioneers were able to reclaim one of the goals to close within 3-1 when Carlos Caracas (West Haven, CT) finished a Ricarti Mendes (Campinas, Brazil) pass inside the six-yard box.
In the second half the Pioneers continued to claw their way back, when Mendes was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. He would keep his nerve and fire a piledriver into the lower lefthand corner past Terrier goalkeeper Karl-Anders Knutsen.
Sacred Heart would then tie the contest when Glenn Wilken (Ridgefield, CT) found a streaking Neal Shapiro (Glenwood, NJ) who fired a 25 yard bullett to knot the score at 3-3.
The contest looked destined for overtime, until Thiago Rease was sent off with just under two minutes remaining giving the Terriers a man advantage, an advantage they would convert on. Peter Ramirez knocked home an Andreas Parpas cross with just 0:36 on the clock to hold off the Pioneers and give the Terriers a 4-3 victory.
Sacred Heart returns to action on October, 15 when they travel to take on conference opponent Monmouth.
