How it Happened:
Providence opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Sam Montalto found the back of the net, assisted by Cameron Yriondo. The Friars doubled the score in the 16th minute as Alvaro Maneiro scored off an assist from Angelo Ventrella.
Sacred Heart continued to generate chances throughout the remainder of the half, with Brady Poor, Danny Istambouli, and Daniel Pineda each testing Providence goalkeeper Ryan Carney.
The Pioneers broke through just before halftime as Istambouli scored on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box in the 45th minute to cut the Providence lead to 2-1 heading into the break.
Despite the momentum the Pioneers carried into the second half, Providence added two goals early in the second half to extend its lead to 4-1. The Pioneers continued to battle throughout the remainder of the match, earning three corner kicks and recording four shots in the final 10 minutes.
The Pioneers continued to push in the final minutes, recording shots from Matthew Sarro, Ivan Morcillo, and Daniel Losfablos, while earning multiple corner kicks. Carney made saves on Sarro and Morcillo to preserve the Providence victory.
Of Note:
- Istambouli scored his first goal of the 2026 season.
- His goal also marked the first of the Pioneers' campaign.
- Sacred Heart recorded 11 shots, including seven on goal.
