SHU Men's Golf In Third Place After First Round Of Connecticut Cup

ELLINGTON, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished the first round of the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in third place Monday. The second round, played Monday afternoon, was halted due to darkness and will be picked up Tuesday morning.
Jeff Cohen (Windham, N.H.), fresh off tying for second place at the Macdonald Cup, fired a one-under 71 in the opening round. He is tied for sixth after the first round, two strokes behind the leader. Kyle Burke (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Sam Barber (North Bay, Ont.) each carded one-over 73s in the opening round. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring group in the first round with a 74. Freshman Tom D'Andrea (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), playing as an individual, posted a score of 75.
Sacred Heart had a team score of 291, three strokes over par. The Pioneers were four strokes behind second-place Hartford heading into the second round. UConn led the tournament at -4 after the opening round.
