Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season With Eighth Place Finish At Connecticut Cup

ELLINGTON, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished its fall season on Tuesday with an eighth-place finish at The Connecticut Cup, held at Ellington Ridge Country Club.

The Pioneers wrapped up their second round Tuesday morning, posting a team score of 311, 23 strokes over par. Sacred Heart improved in the final round with a score of +14, finishing the tournament at +40. The Pioneers finished one stroke behind seventh-place LIU Brooklyn and three behind sixth place Saint Peter's. UConn won the tournament at +3, followed by Hartford and Colgate.

Senior Sam Barber (North Bay, Ont.) was Sacred Heart's top individual finisher in the tournament. Barber tied for 21^st at +9, posting consecutive rounds of 76 on Tuesday. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished one stroke behind Barber at +10, tying for 25^th while also recording back-to-back 76s. Kyle Burke (West Sayville, N.Y.) improved upon his second-round 81 with a 75 in the final round, finished the tournament tied for 46^th at +13. Matt Shubley (Whitby, Ont.) rounded out the Pioneers' scoring group with a final round 75, finishing the tournament at +19. Tom D'Andrea (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), playing as an individual, had a final round 76 to tie for 46^th.
