Men's Golf Tied For 19th After Round One Of Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational

GRASONVILLE, Md. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team played through cold, windy conditions on Saturday to finish the first round of the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club tied for 19th place.
Freshman Connor Cunningham (West Hartford, Conn.) was the Pioneers' low scorer on Saturday, carding a +10 81 on the par-71 course to put himself in a tie for 46th individually. After shooting eight-over par on the front nine, Jeff Cohen (Windham, N.H.) parred six of the last nine holes to finish with a round of 82. Cohen is tied for 53rd at +11. Matt Shubley (Whitby, Ont.) parred seven straight holes on the front nine, but finished his round with a score of 85, 14 strokes over par. Sam Barber (North Bay, Ont.) and Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) each had rounds of +16 87. Barber had three birdies on Saturday.
As a team, Sacred Heart was 51 strokes over par to tie Washington & Lee and Fairleigh Dickinson for 19th place. William & Mary leads the tournament after Saturday's first round at +16, two strokes ahead of Arkansas.
The final round will take place Sunday morning.
