Men's Golf In Third Place Tie After Opening Round of CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – Led by a round of even-par 70 from freshman Matt Shubley (Whitby, Ont.), the Sacred Heart men's golf team tied for third place after the first round of the CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course.
Shubley was three-under par on par-3s on Sunday, and was one-under par until a bogey at 15 put him at even par. He was one of six golfers in the tournament to shoot par or lower on Sunday, with his round of 70 putting him in a tie for fourth and two strokes behind the two leaders. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Connor Cunningham (West Hartford, Conn.) both carded three-over 73s on Sunday, putting themselves in a tie for 15th on the leaderboard. Jeff Cohen (Windham, N.H.) and Sam Barber (North Bay, Ont.) rounded out the Pioneers' scoring group with a pair of 77s.
Sacred Heart had a team score of +13, tying with Saint Francis U for third. Boston College leads the tournament at +3, six strokes clear of second-place Laval. Hofstra is fifth at +15, followed by Central Connecticut and Monmouth tied for sixth at +16.
The final round begins Monday morning.
