Men's Lacrosse Falls 13-3 At #11 Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team lost its second straight game Tuesday night, falling 13-3 to #11 Yale at Reese Stadium. Three Pioneer freshmen scored their first career goals in the game.
Sacred Heart (4-4) had eight shots in the first quarter, but didn't put one on goal. Yale tested Jon Flood (Bay Shore, N.Y.) early, with the senior goalie making two saves in the first five minutes. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 10:17 remaining in the opening period when Conrad Oberbeck fed Jeff Cimbalista for the initial tally. Oberbeck extended the lead to 2-0 at the 7:21 mark with a crease dodge goal. The Bulldogs tacked on two more goals in the final 5:00 of the quarter to take a 4-0 lead after one.
Yale's (7-2) offense kept rolling in the second quarter, scoring five goals to take a 9-0 lead at halftime. The Pioneers had three shots on goal in the quarter, two from Brian Masi (Smithtown,N.Y.) including one on an extra-man opportunity with 3:46 remaining in the half.
Sacred Heart got on the scoreboard with 9:27 to play in the third quarter, as freshman midfielder Graham Welter (Avon, Conn.) scored his first career goal to make the score 10-1. Freshman Bailey Walsh (Derry, N.H.) also notched his first career goal at the 11:47 mark of the fourth quarter, giving Cole Miller (Ridgewood, N.J.) his first career assist. Matt Posch (Brookhaven, N.Y.) tallied his first career goal with 2:39 to play in the game, making the score 13-3.
Yale outshot Sacred Heart 37-25, putting 21 shots on goal. The Pioneers' Mike Calvagna (Holbrook, N.Y.) won 14 of 18 faceoffs. The Bulldogs were 0-for-1 on the extra-man, while Sacred Heart was 0-for-4.
The Pioneers return to NEC play on Saturday, April 4 for a 1 p.m. game against first-place Hobart.
