
Men's Lacrosse Drops Contest at UMBC 13-6

BALTIMORE, M.D.– The Sacred Heart University Men's lacrosse team traveled to UMBC on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 13-6 decision to the Retrievers from UMBC Stadium. The Pioneers fall to 1-3 on the season while UMBC moves to 2-1.
Junior Logan Liljeberg led the way for the Pioneers with two goals while Connor Sullivan carried the SHU defense with five ground balls and one caused turnover.
1st Quarter (4-2 UMBC)
- UMBC got on the board early in the game as with 12:40 remaining in the first-quarter Frawley found the back of the net unassisted to put the retrievers ahead 1-0.
- The Pioneers answered right back less than two minutes later as a goal by Jack Walsh with 10:55 remaining evened the score out a 1-1.
- UMBC fired back with three unanswered goals including two man advantage goals to put UMBC ahead 4-1.
- Before the closing of the quarter, SHU tallied one more goal coming off the stick of Donovan Lacy for his second of the year to send the game into the second quarter with SHU down 4-2.
2nd Quarter (9-4 UMBC)
- SHU started off the second quarter strong with two goals coming off the sticks of Logan Liljeberg and Alex Weiss to even the score up a 4-4.
- But UMBC countered with five unanswered goals in the quarter to send game into the third with UMBC strongly ahead 9-4.
- SHU went 7-9 on clear attempts in the quarter while tallying nine ground balls and tallying seven shots.
- The face-off game was all UMBC in the second quarter as the Retrivers took 7-8 face-off wins in the quarter.
3rd Quarter (10-4 UMBC)
- The offensive attack died down in the third quarter as UMBC was the lone team to score a single goal in the quarter.
- The goals didn't fall as a total of 20 shots were taken in the quarter as SHU fired off 11 while UMBC tallied nine.
- UMBC had one man-up opportunity in the quarter but wasn't able to score on the advantage.
4th Quarter (13-6 UMBC)
- UMBC tallied three more goals in the fourth quarter which was just too much for SHU to overcome even with a pair of goals by Austin Pavone and Logan Liljeberg.
- SHU tallied 15 shots in the quarter, scooped up 10 ground balls and went 5-6 on the clear attempts.
NOTES
- SHU went 4-23 on face-offs in the game.
- The Pioneers tallied 21 turnovers while forcing 18.
- SHU went 24-29 on clear attempts.
- Dutton Brooks took the loss in goal for the Pioneers tallying five saves on 14 shots faced dropping his record to 1-3 on the year.

- SHU returns to action on Tuesday Mar. 3 when they hit the road to take on Stony Brook. Game-time is set for 6:00 p.m.
