FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team officially inked its top recruit, Colton Johnston, at a press conference held in the Pitt Center on Monday afternoon. Johnston joins the Pioneers via Team IMPACT, the Boston-headquartered national nonprofit.
"This signing of Colton means a lot to us and our program," said Pioneers head coach Jon Basti. "We pride ourselves on not being just about ourselves. We're not just guys that come and play lacrosse. It's more important to be a good human being and a good person. Our culture really leads into that and preaches it consistently."
After a brief introduction, Johnston signed his national letter of intent and was greeted by the entire SHU men's lacrosse team and staff as well as several family members in-attendance. Johnston has already been to several events already with the Pioneers and he will continue join the Pioneers for team-building events, meals, games and other activities. The five-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia.
"We couldn't be more excited about this," said SHU junior Conor Sullivan. "We think that Colton is going to be a great addition to the team. Everything that he is about, he just brings the best out of everyone he interacts with."
Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,800 children with Universities across the country.
