The graduate transfer recorded four assists and seven blocks against Mercyhurst
WALTHAM, Mass. – In the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey matches against Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday, graduate transfer Rourke Russell was the top defenseman in the series. Russell tallied four assists alongside seven blocks to award himself Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
It's the first weekly honor for the Long Beach, Calif. native and the fifth by a Pioneer this season. Canisius's Austin Alger garnered Player of the Week while teammate Jacob Barczewski earned Goalie of the Week. RIT's Carter Wilkie was awarded Rookie of the Week.
Russell scored his first points as a Pioneer in Friday's matchup recording two assists while also tallying four blocks. In Saturday's game, he recorded two more assists with three blocks in the Pioneers 3-3 draw with the Lakers.
The Pioneers go on the road this week to take on Yale in an exhibition match at 7:00 p.m.
